School -Wide Safety for all Children

Bully proofing helps students understand that they have the right to be safe at school, and provides them with a nurturing environment. Students are taught how to solve problems by using strategies to respond to a person who is bullying them. They learn about why children bully each other, the difference between normal conflict and bullying, the difference between tattling and telling and how to "bully proof" themselves.

Bully Proofing Strategies

H - Help: Tell an adult, "I need help."

A - Assert Yourself: Use an "I message" to stop the bullying behavior.

H - Humor: Joke about yourself.

A - Avoid: Get out of the situation by getting away.

S - Self-Talk: Tell yourself the truth.

O - Own it: Agree with the bully.
